WD serial no. More WD questions.

I have a 1952 WD by the serial no. It appears to have had an extensive restoration about ten years ago and then sat in a field. My question concerns the engine. The paint condition is much better than the rest of the tractor, indicating that it was changed. It also has a powercrater decal and a block serial of U3019-31. I am wondering if the previous owner upgraded to a WD45 engine or added paint and a decal? Is there any easy way to tell without measuring the stroke? Appreciate all responses.

Check the engine serial number which is stamped on the side of the engine block behind the carburator. A WD engine will begin with W-####, while a WD-45 engine will be 45-####.

The WD-45 cylinder head is much thicker up and down than the WD head. The name of the stock WD cylinder head is W-201. Naturally the 201 mean cubic inch. Don't ask me what the W means. The name of the WD-45 engine is W-226. My guestimate of the head thickness approximately 3 inches for the WD head and 4 for the WD-45. As far as measuring the stroke. You can roll the engine over to TDC and stick a wire down a spark plug hole and get a rough idea of the stoke. This would not be the first wd to get the power crate sticker mistakenly.
