CA govenor shaft

Does the govenor shaft have to be timed with the cam gear, or just put it in any cog and time the distributor to number one. Any help is appreciated, Ken.

probly not if you in fact have a distributor. If you have a magneto then it would need to be properly timed.

I could try and to explan but i think i would confuse you more we have a shop manual that takes you through it step by step. If you like email me and i can scan the pages in the book to you. We have a 52 and the oil feed line was pluged and that can cause problems so just to let you know keep an eye on that! Hope we can help and good luck!

Thanks for the info, i will check those oil lines, for mine spun the no. 1 rod bearing, could be what happened. I turned the crank and put new rod and main bearings in it, but can't find the front and rear seals, napa said they could not get them and there is not a Allis dealer in my area. The govenor shaft came out when i pulled the front cover, and i don't know if it has to be timed to the cam gear, i don't think it does, but would like to know before i put all back together. It has a distributor, it is a 52 model. Thanks again, Ken.
