I have a 5030 that has a leak in diesel tank. How can I fix without removing it entirely? That is a huge job for lil' ole me.

I also need to order filters, etc. Which ones do I need?

I have the service manual (just bought it) but I can't find out what filters it needs and the parts numbers or where to buy.

I am in So Central TX.

A fuel tank leak repair job depends on where the leak is- by a mounting strap, etc. Might need to drain the tank after determining where the leak is and use JB weld, or something similar. With JB weld, the important thing is to get the spot dry before using the product. It does work well. Regarding filters: You have a service manual- that tells you how to repair the unit. Operator and parts manuals detail what you need to ID parts, maintain the tractor, lube requirements, etc. Replacing existing filters by number is ok, IF the previous owner stayed with the proper ones. Oooops, almost forgot part two. Any auto parts store can sell you filters just by application. It helps to have the vintage and serial number of the tractor, and having the old filters along can't hurt.

This might be easy. Go to the largest local tractor dealer on a day when there are a bunch of ol' boys hanging around bragging. Say "my name is PattiJo and the diesel tank on my tractor is leaking and this is just too huge a job for lil' ole me." Be prepared with a large lunch table for the "heroes." If your luck is out and the men in your part of Texas aren't worth much of a damn, the job gets harder. Why is the tank leaking? If something rubbed or punched a hole in it , thats one thing. If it rusted through the problem could be a lot bigger. A pinhole leak might be fixed with a sheet metal screw, flat washer and neoprene washer. (roofing screws are great) Another solution might be a Permatex product called "leak repair" or something like that. It comes in an aerosol can, sprays on like a mixture of rubber cement and snot and works pretty well. The more coats the better. I used some on a motorcycle case 10 years ago and it still holds. There is also some stuff you dump in the tank and slosh around. Might be the best "goop fix", but you probably need to remove the tank to do it right. Good luck, let us know how it turns out.
