I recently started our old WD and let it idle for 20+ minutes and then began to move it from one shed to another. Tractor operated properly for about 50 yards and then would not move. I let the tractor continue to idle and after a few minutes was able to complete the move. When I turned off the tractor I noticed oil running down on the outside of the exhaust stack. Do I need a complete overhaul or what? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like carburetor icing. When it warmed up and the ice melted you got mosture out the exhaust which looked like oil when mixed with the carbon in the stack. Ed

First thing is to take each plug out one at a time and check for spark. Replace any bad plugs and see how it runs.

Could be some very worn valve guides, and oil is rolling on past the valves into the combustion chamber, but I would think you would have some smoke coming out with that oil too.

Are you sure it is oil, could it be condinsation by letting it idle for that long. I have had that to happen in cool temp.

Sounds like it could be a hole in a piston or broken piston.
Broken oil ring(s) could be the culrit too, but you didnt mention any smoke, so for that much oil to get out the exhaust it would have to be something that happened all of a sudden and is letting a large amount of oil through someplace.

Is it still firing evenly ?
Remove sparkplugs and give a good look.
Spin the engine over.....you might see where the oil's coming from.

If not, run a compression check and see if there's one or more cylinders that are extremely low.
