I recently purchased a WD. It starts and runs excellent, however the other day I took it down the road got about 1/4 mile and it started cutting out and then died as if it were out of gas. I tried to start several times and wouldnt even fire. After I let it sit for about 5 min. it started and I made it about 50 yards same thing happened. I dumped the fuel bowl, it seams to stay full. I may have something plugged up in the carb, but was wondering what good compression should be when warm and how much drop should there be from cold to warm? Any ideas? Thanks

First thing to do when an AC quits is: shut gas off, remove & clean sediment bowl, replace bowl, turn gas on & fire her up. Over the years we've had four AC's; WD thru 17's. They all at one time or another took a spell like dirt in the carb. I don't know why, but cleaning sediment bowl seems to help.

My 49 WD did the same thing one time. Turned out to be a sticking needle valve in the carb (zenith). I'm referring to the needle valve that permits fuel to run into the float chamber when float drops down. Float dropped down OK but needle valve remain seated.

you didn't say if it has a Magneto, or battery type distributor... If a Distributor, it could be a bad condenser...less likely--it could be a bad coil..

Has any repairs or maintenance been done on it recently..?? Like--has the valves been adjusted recently..?? Maybe they were set too tight.... Do you have Real GOOD fuel flow, with the plug removed from the carburetor bottom...?? It should flow good and steady, and not stop... It should not reduce to a "trickle" either.. Once a magneto has an engine running, it usually keeps it running--providing it does not have a bunch of moisture in the cap...

Maybe you have a non-vented fuel cap instead of a vented one, might have some junk in the fuel tank that moves over the fuel outlet, might be the coil/points/condenser warming up and failing.

Sounds like condenser if you have one and not a mag.
