My gas D17 floods very easy on the initial start up of the day. What should be the factory carburetor settings and what advice can you AC owners give for this problem. It runs beautiful once I get the old girl running.

My first Ford car did that. It had been my dad's first new car, a 1954 with 6 cylinder I block engine. It needed choking but the trick was to shove the choke in the INSTANT it fired. If you didn't, it killed itself flooded.

So full choke until it pops, the open the choke, FAST.

Sounds like either the float level is a tic to high, or you have a leaky needle valve. When you first turn on the fuel, could be fuel creeping past a poor seating needle valve, which in turn will raise the float level even higher. Might have a little spec on rust stuck on the needle also. Clean the seat, & lower the floats down, and it'll probably eliminate your problem....

One way to get around that problem is to turn the gas on for about 30 seconds then turn it back off start the tractor and then turn the gas back on. I know thats not a real fix but it works. I have to do that on one my older tractors

Appreciate the advice from both of you. I will tackle the recommended steps and let you know how things are going. It is starting to chill down here in Southern Wisconsin so there will be plenty of opportunities to see if they worked on the cold engine!

If you are running a zenith carb; turn gas jet in all the way...then 2 1/2 turns out. Then turn in air all the way and ...6 1/2 turns out. We have three d-17's and this is best all around setting.
