I am restoring a 1953 CA and when I drained the transmission and hydraulic oil there was water included. The water was not rusty but I removed the hydraulic pump and the plate next to the shifter to inspect and see how things looked in there...Every thing looked great, nice and clean no rust anywhere...to my delight! Now, how do I go about cleaning the gunky oil which is in there as well as any left over water?? Can I put new hydraulic oil in there and then run her a bit and drain and refill or??? Any ideas would be greatly appriciated!

the water came in around the shift lever. make sure you get a new boot, and park the tractor inside. i prefer not to use solvent or fuel oil ect. if you put in a couple gallons of cheap motor oil or regular hydraulic fluid, start tractor and run hydraulics and operate for about 20 minutes, then drain and do it again. one good flush should be adequate, tho you might still have some slight residue. then run a month and see what it looks like. only cost $10 to fill the hydraulic/ trans system.

I usually put in some diesel and run for a while then drain, might have to do that 3 or 4 times. Okie
