My CA spun a rod bearing so i took apart to fix and was wandering how it gets oil. The hole in crank journal does not go through to any oil passages. Does it just splash oil on them. What might cause this to happen. Any info is appreciated, Ken.

the original B and C motors had a pump that pumps oil thru the cam shaft. the cam has several holes in it that spray oil at the connecting rods and crank journals as the motor spins. this is called a "filter bypass" system, as 85% of the oil goes thru the cam and routed up the outside tube to the top end valve train, and the other 15% of the oil is routed thru the filter and pressure gauge and then dumps directly back to sump. you dont run the filtered oil into the oil passages.----- that being said, i have heard there were some modifications to the CE motor on the later CA tractors that made them "pressure lube", but i have not had one apart to see that. I beleive oil squirts out of holes in the camshaft and squirts into holes in the rods....kind-of a controled splash system...make sure the rod was'nt put in backwards...2 rods go in one direction, 2 the other...a repair manual is a must
