D17 wont idle

I just replaced the govoner gear and weights that blew apart in my D17 and now it constantly runs at about 3/4 throttle.The only way i can get it to idle is if i manually grab the carb linkage and pull it back. I took the govoner out again and everything looks fine but the hand control has absolutly no effect on the engine speed.Any ideas or suggestions?Thanks

You might have a spring missing that holds the carb linkage back.

Joe, Have you tried adjusting the linkage from the throttle lever to the governor? There is a baseline adjustment (in the manual if you have one) that will be a starting point and you can fine-adjust from there. Tom
