Am looking to buy this '48AC and it has an externally mounted tower type ignition coil mounted on the frame rail approx. 3 feet from the magnito. My question: Is this normal?
Thanks for any help.

As Joe said, it's a quick fix for getting the tractor back in service again if the owner had trouble finding the correct replacement coil. We specialize in F/M mag service work and rebuilding and have the correct parts in stock for your Fairbanks if you purchase the tractor..

No this is not normal the coil in the mag probaly went bad and this was a cheap fix and very common. Basic convert the mag to a distirbtor senario. joe
