The boss about a month ago demanded that the boat I bought two years ago with a stuck motor be running this year. Now that the motor is back together in the boat, all I can get it to do is sputter a little. Every thing is new, inside and out the carb is clean, the fuel is fresh, fuel pump is working, plenty of compression, but it just won't run. If anyone out there knows anything about a 90hp OMC 2-cycle motor, I'd be more than happy to trade some tractor info for it.

I have a Evinrude 50hp on a boat and had to have it rebuilt a couple years ago. When I got it back it would not stay running unless you kept squeezing the primer bulb. I rebuilt the fuel pump and still no luck. It turned out to be the vaccum hose that runs from the crank to the fuel pump was not seated correctly and was losing all the vaccum before it got to the pump. Just a thought! And the eating money part is right on. I have bought my last two tractors for what I have in the boat and motor. Bill {Antique Acres}

I would check all the fuel hoses and related connectors for kinks and plugs. Then, be sure you have pumped the fuel bulb up hard before trying to start the motor. Your fuel pump is dry and you will get a lot of sputtering and dying until it gets primed and all the lines are full of fuel. You might even spray WD-40 sparingly into the carb to keep it running while the fuel pump gets started. Understand also, you can't really use ether on these since the fuel carries the engine lube on a 2-cycle. That is, unless you have one of those real fancy crankcase oil injected models.

And put another new set of plugs in it, too. Boats eat money, so get used to it.
