How do you convert an allis B from crank start to electric start. I have the bell housing that holds the starter but what about the flywheel. It will need a flywheel with a ring gear. And there must be some bolt holes on the block that will mount the generator. Or do you use a starter/generator and not use the bell housing. Where do you drill the holes to mount the generator? I also wonder what to do electrially.

If you have to change the torque tube, then the flywheel likely will need machined to accept a ring gear. Better to obtain a newer flywheel. Where are you located? I have a flywheel off a power unit which would accept a ring gear. My dad was a dealer and used to braize 2 nuts on the block to bolt a generator bracket on.

Thank you for the info on the flywheel. If I get the flywheel from you, where do I get the ring gear from?
I live at 4838 W Woods Edge Road Janesville, WI 53548
Where do you live? Are you close enough that I could drive to your house? What is your phone Number?
Dave

I live in Marissa, IL which is in the fringe East St Louis area. Hopefully, you can find parts closer to you. Please don't cut the tool box off to make room for the battery box. My friend is restoring a 1938 B and needs one. I'll phone you to discuss this.

The early blocks didn't come with the tapped bosses for a generator. They be front left under the manifold.

The tractor will have to be split and the fly wheel will need a ring gear. Installing one is easy. Just heat the ring gear up and it will expand enough to fit over the fly wheel and when it cooles down it will be tight. I start a small fire out of wood and lay it in there for a very short time just to get it evenly heated. As to the question of a generator, you will need the delco generator. It mounts to the left of the tractor with a bracket and the holes I would believe, should be in the block to mount the bottom in place. The wiring would be only for the starter, generator, battery, and gage box. I hope I have helped. ED

I heat the ring gear in my wifes oven at 400 degrees. Works great
