Ram goes up and down and holds strong, but, shakes alot going up...changed fluid (saw water in the old) and still does it...easy fix??...or total pump rebuild??

It could be that only one of the two pistons is working in the hyd pump.

that was my thought...i have the service manual and think that maybe one piston is bypassing and the other is pumping...they don't look too complicated to rebuild...

Air in the lines will make them jump and jerk a little. (Not sure that is your problem.)Air bubble compresses and the cylinder starts to move as the air decompresses the cylinder stops and waites for the air to recompress before starting to move again.
After a rebuild of a 24" diameter hydraulic cylinder I have seen jurky action on startup for weeks before all the air got bled out of all the lines and dead spaces.

probably still a little "gooey" inside. i would use for an hour and drain again. might be check valves stickinga little. did you use thin oil? should be hudraulic oil like hytrans, or a 20 wt oil. if you use gear lube or thicker motor oil like 50wt, then you wil get airation of the oil and it will do what you said.

Thanks...I got a service manual for it, but not an owners manual...just dawned on me that I did use 90wt in the gearbox...same reservior...oops!
