I have a 6080 that when you are going down the road the brakes will lock up, or grab. Sometimes to get them to release you have to back up. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on where to start looking????? Appreciate any ideas. Thank you for your time.

6080 brakes are hydraulic actuated wet brakes, but not by the hydraulic system on the tractor. There are two small master cylinders behind the plate that is under the steering column. I think there are maybe 6 or 8 bolts holding the plate. The only return springs are internal to these master cylinders and aren't tremendously strong. Each cylinder is actuated by seperate pedals. The right hand brake pedal goes through the hollow shaft left brake pedal and pivots in it. They are notorious for seizing in this area.

When you apply the right hand brake, it should return to the uppermost position by itself. If you can pull it up a little farther with your toe or hand, then it is not returning and probably is seized in the hollow shaft.

They are pretty simple ti remove and clean with emory paper, etc. Remove the panel and you will see the two operating mechanisms. On the end of the sahaft you will find a snap ring. Remeve it and using some WD-40 or like substance, wiggle the shaft from the tractor. The cam that operates the cylinder is splined so a little lube will help it slide out. Clean the shaft and then check the left pedal for return. It comes apart the same way and can get bound in the bushing where it goes through the support. A little red grease will help prevent the problem in the future.

If this doesn't fix the problem, post back and let us know.
