I purchased a late model B that has a piece of wire wrapped around the oil fitting on the governor and then around the body of the governor. It appears its job is to hold the oil fitting etc. in place. What is your take on this?

Very common. The oil fitting at the top of the governer housing is a tapered gas line thread that seems to strip easily (soft metal on the governer housing). The effort required to bend the line to form the curve seems to be enough to break or strip the fitting, or the soft copper line.

If the housing is not oblong from wiggling around, you can clean it up real well and use loctite to hold it in place. I have not had one work out using loctite when the fit was still somewhat snugg. That can be done without taking the governer cover off.

Pretty common from what I have seen on my tractors - the fitting is a real light press fit and wears over time. Usually the oil pressure isn't enoungh to blow it out, but one of mine popped out when I had a bunch of rain water in the oil..... sure glad it gave me that warning!

Thanks for the replies. Will this loose fitting cause an oil leak if I am able to get oil to flow to the governor again? If so whats the fix for the fitting?
