Wish I had an HD-5. I have to pull the engine on my HD-7 to get to that transmission seal. On your HD-5, AC modernized the design and the transmission can be removed without pulling the engine. However I don't think you will have to do that. Remove the driveline between the engine and transmission then remove the transmission input yoke. The yoke should be held on by a cap screw (bolt) into the input shaft if the cap screw is loose (which can happen over time) that is probably your leak. But if the yoke is tight, you may have to set the brakes and select high gear so you can loosen the cap screw (an air impact wrench is a wonder for this job). Either way, at this point I would replace the seal. Be sure and check the seal surface of the yoke, it is probably groved and the new seal will not seal properly. So call AC and get a new yoke (ha ha ha), take it to your local machine shop and have it welded up and remachined, or go to your local parts store and get a seal repair kit. The kit will have steel sleeve that slides onto the yoke and a seal sized for the sleeve. When you reassemble the yoke, I prefer sealing the yoke spline and cap screw with Loctite 'Blue' Sealant. This is removable and will keep oil from leaking through the spline.

I would not use a heavier oil/grease while it slows the leak it doesn't properly lube the transmission. Allis Chamlers recommended a select weight for certain temp ranges for good reason.

Good Luck with your 5 and let me know if you come across a reasonably priced TS-5 (the loader version of the HD-5),
