will the wheels off a d-17 work on a wd 45? If so could i run the original tire size for a wd 45?

The bolt pattern is the same. Various widths of rims and tires were available for each tractor. Most WD45s had the optional 13 inch tires (14.9 current size), while most D17s had the 16.9 tire. Actually, you don't need to switch the entire unit, since both are four rail Power Shift setups. You could retain your center dish (wheel), and switch the rims.
