I pulled the pto housing off to find out why it wasn't working.The shaft that comes out of the transmission is broken off right where it comes out.Is this the same shaft that is in the the trans, or does it slide into the transmission shaft? The pictures in my service manual aren't real clear.Also the bearing at the back of the pto housing seems a little chewed up. Finally where can I get a replacement for this shaft? I have a mainshaft that I just took out. The bearings are no good but I think the shaft is good. Mike, e-mail if you are interested.

Hi Mike,

I believe you are talking about the transmission main shaft. Here is a pdf of the assembly of a B transmission. It would be piece 4 as shown.

Thanks a lot Rod. That is the peice,Itis broken right where it comes through the middle bearing.Is that picture from the parts manual? My service manual does not have that good of a diagram in it.Also would you have a picture of the bearing that the shaft rides in on the pto end,it spins easily but it doesn't look right to me. Mike,

Here's the assembly view of a B pto, showing the bearing you mention. These assembly views are out of the original "Parts Book and Operating Instructions" manual that came with my '42B. The newer parts manuals have exploded views instead of assembly views. They both have there advantages and disadvantages but I like the assembly views since they show how all the pieces go together a little better, IMO. For example, here's the exploded view in the more modern "Parts Manual".

Please let me know when you have copied the three pdfs so I can delete them from my website to save space.
