Everytime I think I know something about the B it humbles me again. I have a 49B that I paid $300. for about 7 years ago. It had not run for over 10 years but had been under cover. Four hours later I had it running and I was very proud (should have known better). For the most part it has run well but when it wants to act up it can be real aggravating. I am trying to Identify its carb. I do not believe it is original equipment. It is a Zenith and has an alumninum disk attached to the top. the numbers on this are 224640 over 10903. A 1 and a B are stamped on the body on the outside near the choke lever, a B is stamped on one side of the throat that attaches to the manifold and a 2 on the other side. There is a single adjustment screw near the fuel intake. On the bottom of the bowl on the side near the engine is what may be a cleanout drain. There is also a single bolt on the front side at the bottom of the bowl. I am considering rebuilding or buying a rebuilt carb. If I rebuild I need to know what carb it is. If I decide to by already rebuilt what card do I need. I have the an Allis Shop Manualbut it is not clear as to whether the carburetors listed are interchangeable. The tractor runs well for a 10-15 seconds and at idle then stops. Acts like it just runs out of fuel. Tank is clean, gas is new and flows freely through fuel line to carb (I have an intank fuel line extension to get above the crud line). Timing seems right when it is running and I have tried all of the inexpensive cures I can think of (plugs, plug wires, distributer cap, points, condenser, coil). Some think I am an old man now, but this thing is really beginning to age me. What carb should be on this tractor?? If anyone has any ideas as to why it isn't running, all help will be appreciated.
