my allis c makes a good bang noise when i let out on clutch, and its mostly coming from the final drive on the left side. I jacked it up with it in gear and noticed i can turn the wheel alot before it stops, it does make some noise on the left side and wines loud on that side. Is it my final drive doing this? It has a new clutch and pressure plate also if im not paying attention when i let out on the clutch it will really bang like i said it seems to be on the left side i cant believe it would be the ring gear cause that dont seem to make any noise. What could it be?? Thanks in advance for any help. Jason Becker

This is what happens when the bull pinion to bull gear gets messed up. An easy way to check is to back up, stop with the brakes, shift to forward. Hold the brakeand watch the trouble side while letting out the clutch. Usually you'll see either the tire pop in or out at the top (axle bearings)or there will b a windup and BANG (pinion shaft bearings).
Pull off the wheel. Behind it is a small (4") cover. With the tractor in gear you'll be able to turn the axle a bit before meeting resistance from the transmission. This play is the bull pinion shaft wobbling around, creating lash between the final drive gears. A little bit is normal, but I suspect you'll find quite a bit.
If you pull the cover you'll be looking at the tapered roller bearing that supports the end of the bull pinion shaft. Inspection will usually show the bearing and race to be worn.
You can pull shims out from undr the cover to remove lash. The bestway is to trial fit until the axle is hard to turn, then make paper gaskets and install the shims. If you can take all the shims out and still have play the final drive has to come pff, the brake drum has to be pulled from the shaft, and a new bearing installed.

put a floor jack under the drawbar, off center so that one rear wheel comes off theground 2 inches. rock the wheel back and forth and shove it toward the center seat. do with the tractor in gear, and in neutral. get an idea of what is going on. let it down and jack up the other side and run the same test. you could have a loose wheel or hub on the shaft, or could be internal.
