I'm looking at a what I believe to be early sixties track loader HD -5 (TS -5) serial #6004, I'm wondering what it weighs for hauling purposes, my best guess is at least 12,000#, but not more than 16,000#. It runs and operates, but needs some TLC, it has a broken front motor mount, a cracked bracket that keeps the lifting cylinder from popping out of it's pocket, and the motor has a coolant leek. you can run it for short periods of time, and it will not overheat, but if you fill the radiator up in minutes of it starting it leaks out a small line on the side of the block, which is part of the heating chamber. I don't believe it is a cracked block because it fills all the cylinders with fluid too....I think the head gasket/ o-rings are bad...never been rebuilt. A crack would not gush that much fluid into all cylinders...input is greatly appreciated

Can't help you much with the coolant problem but I believe your analysis that all cylinders don't usually fill up with a cracked block (unless it has had a serious freeze up). I guess I'd lean a bit more toward the head than the head gasket but, if you check the gasket, head check is easy.

Allis built the HD-5 from 1946 to 1955. They made 29,255 of them. Yours is a 1949. They had a GM 2 cylinder, 2 cycle diesel that had about 40 hp on the drawbar and pulled 10059 # at Nebraska - pretty good considering they weighed 11,815 from the factory (more if it has a blade).
Speeds were 1.46, 2.44, 3.30 and 3.96.

I have a bunch more info if you'd like to email me.

I haven"t rebuilt my HD-5 engine, nor have I looked at the parts book, but I can. But I know there are 2 kinds of detroit blocks, wet sleeve and dry sleeve, with dry sleeve normally your more HD turbo models. Most older detroits were wet sleeve, especially the naturals.
So, when a wet sleeve engine (which is the liner has o-rings to seal it from the blower area and head area) Running a wet sleeve detroit without coolant, or "ground-hopping" one dry will cause water in airbox and in oil.
As for weight: 16.8K with counter weight.
