Anybody have any experience with the 185 model AC tractors? I am in the market for a good used tractor in the 40 to 50 HP range. I would like to get four wheel drive, but I realize that the 185 is only 2 wheel drive. I have a 48 WD but it is getting to the point that everytime I get it out, I have to work on it for half a day before I can work. I would like to have hydraulics up and down so that I can push a scraper blade into the ground. The local dealer has a used 185 model AC for sale with a loader. He is asking $7500, which I hope is negotiable. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

A little more horsepower is always good but you said you're looking for a 40-50 hp tractor and the 185 is 74 hp...just wanted you to know.

Thanks for the reply Dan. Have you owned one of these 185's before. Are they a reliable tractor? Do they have hydraulics down, or just up like my WD? Do they still have the spin-out wheels? I bought a 125 for the farm after we got rid of our WD45 back in about 1975. It was a piece of junk. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Have had a 185 since 1978,been very reliable. They don't have down pressure on the 3 point and do have spin out wheels.Does the tractor you looked at have 18.4x28 or 18.4 x30 rear tires, the 30's are better. If you do pto work and have a need for 1000 and 540, dual speed was offered but was not standard.

Bob, We had a 185 new years ago. We traded up for a 200 because of the volume of work we were doing. The 185, like most three point hitches, is single action hydraulics. You should be able to adjust your scrapper so it becomes more aggressive. Tom
