Cutter for WD45

I need to clean up a small field (3-5 acres)with some alder saplings and lots of Black berry briars. I have a WD45, with a 3pt snap coupler adapter.

What do you folks recommend as far as brand and size of cutter. I'm looking into a woods 5'.

Will I have any problems connecting to the tractor?

Get at least a 6 foot cutter, as heavily built as you can find/afford. The WD45 can handle up to an 8 foot for cutting, but you will probably need some weights on the front to lift it completely off the ground. A 6 foot will probably be your best bet for a 3-point cutter. Larger than that I woluld suggest a drag type. If you decide on the larger drag type, try to find one with the wheels that trail behind it so you can get close to obstacles. The drag type is more difficult to use anywhere you need to back up, but you get the advantage of the wider cut.
With either type you will need an overrunning clutch for your PTO shaft so the spinning mass of the cutter doesen't push the tractor when the clutch is depressed. They are about $50 or so, but cheap insurance for a tractor with a transmission driven PTO.

I use a 5' International boshog I purchased with my old tractor. I wish I had a 6'. The bushog does not mow the path of my tires which makes it very hard to get around trees or fences. The one feature I would seriously encourage you to consider is to get one that rides on its own wheels instead of hanging on the back of the tractor. That way, you can mow with the contour of the ground, instead of having it rare up when you go over a little rise or go through a ditch. If it has its own wheels, you only need a drawbar on your tractor and a PTO. Your three point will not be used. Hope this helps.
