Model B Brakes, Thermostat and Seat

As the proud, new owner of a 1950 Mod. B, I find that I will have to put new brake bands on the little A-C. How much trouble are the brake bands to replace? Any special hints or cautions?

Also, my tractor does not have a thermostat in the cooling system. Is it a common practice to run these tractors without a thermostat, or was this just the choice of the previous owner?

Finally, I was able to track the history of this tractor back to its original owner. What is unusual is the fact that this tractor has as its original seat, what appears to be a seat fron a Model C. The seat is a cantilevered pan seat supported by a coil spring and a small shock absorber. The wife of the original owner swears that the seat is original to the tractor. Were seat syles an option or did the owner, perhaps, just negotiate a switch at the dealer?

That seat is from a CA not a C. They aren't easy to find.

I had the brakes changed on my 39 it was not that bad if you have a litle wrench ability you will really like your new brakes, my "B" has no thermostat either they run a little cooler, I also have a "Pan" seat on my "39" I found out it was the first year they had the pan seat as an option "after lots or reserch" hope you enjoy as much as I.

Roy, We also have a 1939 allis b with pan seat, colil spring & shock. I just assumed that it had been changed. i did not imagine that this could have been an option. Thanx, Dave Zook
