Stumbled across an Allis Chalmers A the other day. Was curious about a few specifics on these tractors. How many cubic inch are they? How many horsepower? Don't think there were too many of them made....

According to Terry May, there were 1225 built between '36 & '42. The cubes differed in the gasoline (460 cu in) and the distillate (510.50 cu in) engines. They were rated at 40 hp on the drawbar and 51 on the pto/belt.

Most of the A's you see around today have been updated to the thresherman special kit which gives 563 cu. in. and about 80 PTO HP. A 4-14 plow is a toy behind most of them, and the JD guys just hate to see someone pull into an antique tractor pull with an A Allis on the trailer.
