i got thins 1938 ac b from my nieghbor and for a winter project i was going to put a 366 out of a dump truck on it. dont really know why just felt like it. something to do and i thought it would be cool and cheaper than trying to fix the motor that is on it. just have the block left with crank rods and pistons. thats about all thats left. i was wondering what the rear end is rated for because this motor is pushing 200hp and 300 ft lbs of torque. i was wondering if the rear end could handle that and how much more than that could it handle and has anyone done anyhting like this before.
thanks
joel

Redneck+welder+motor that runs and tractor that doesn't is bound to become a nightmare.

Think of all the fun us rednecks have buildin that kinda nightmare. While the yuppie engineers are drawin, plannin, and discusin, us rednecks giterdone. A fire wrench/ hole driller, welder, sledge hammer, and a set a sockets. Life aint any better.

The gears will handle all the the tires will hold unless you weight the crap out of it or go around poppin wheelies. Then you will have a condition like you have breakin a pencil over the edge of a table.

I don"t think any of the manufactures ever put a max. rating on there drive trains. The gears on my C and B have taken every thing I have thrown at them. They both have a tad more HP than they came out with. {:^D

well my dad keeps telling my about when he loged he used a massy harrus or something like that and it was rated to either 1000 or 6000 hp or ft lbs. i was kinda planning on putting something bigger on later or mod that motor out and push quite a bit more power. my nieghbor has a 496 that i am trying to get and find parts for. i really want that on there. i think it has like 400hp or somewhere around there. i am kinda wanting to pull it but i dont know.

Since you have plenty of time on your hands this winter, also take the transmission and rear end out of the 366 dump truck and install in your B. Sounds like you need plenty of power in a small unit. You will have to adjust the tire size and add weight. Don't forget about the clutch, use the one out of the dump truck. Also since it gets very cold there, you might as well take the cab off the dump truck and attach it (weld, bolt or just throw a rope over it)to the operators platform of the B. Keep us up to date on you project.

why not just paint the truck orange and put "B" stickers on the hood, that would be cheaper and save time?

that tractor is pretty nice looking and looks like it is at a show. mine is going to be nothing close to that though. i am just going to have something to put around on and when i want some power i will definatly have enough. i was going to buy make your own headers and just run them all straight up or run an edelbrock bbc race header. i dont have an electric start model so i cant put the motor inside the tractor bellhousing. and i wont try to hand crank it or pull start. i was going to use the large clutch and stuff with an old cast bellhousing and bolt the chevy bellhousing to the tractor and weld a shaft on the stock drive shaft that will fit into the clutch.

They have classes for V8 engines in antique tractors to pull in but they start at higher weights than a B would hold up in.
Someone posted a picture of a B with a small block Chevy engine installed. Looked like he had done a real good job and makes a nice show off tractor but I don"t know what else it would be good for. If you use the original torque tube you will have to use the small flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate.
