my 1955 wd45 is leaking above the pto housing at the gasket. looks like i will have to remove the rear shaft and then unscrew the nuts from the bottom of housing to get to it. doesnt seem to be leaking at the bearing cage oil seal. any one out there tackled this job?? would like your input. should i change the oil seal as long as i have the shaft removed?? thanks

I just got done replacing all the pto gears in the torque tube. When I put the housing back on I cut out a thin paper gasket and put a light coat of gasket goo on either side to hold it in place. As far as the seals on the carrier that depends if you mind it slinging grease all over and picking up sand. If you have it down you might as well.

HI

The hardest thing is to remove the pto shaft . If it come right off ok, but my have been use and end up with a build up of metal that stops it from coming off. I use a punch and maybe a chisel to try to get them and after it is off cleean it up very well. Can be a pain sometimes.

Rest of gear box is not too bad, better if you have someone to help put it back together.
