Allis Chalmers 200 question

I am looking at making an offer to buy an AC 200 w/no cab. It has two remotes, 3 pt, tires are fair to poor. This tractor has alot of hours on it, the tin is in great shape, but the rest of the tractor has been neglected. Tractor runs but has weak hydraulics. The deal with it is, this is one of the tractors that I grew up running. From 7th grade to one year after I graduated I worked for a dairy farmer. I spent countless hours cultivating corn and beans, grinding feed, round baling, hauling manure, and everything else with this tractor. I've grown up around and owned two cyl John Deeres, but have come to admire the orange tractors alot. On the farm we had a 7000, 175, 185, 170, 200, and an 8050 fwa (awesome tractor). But my favorite was always the 200. The problem is I don't have a clue what it's worth. There would be a considerable amount of work needing to be done to this tractor to get it back into shape. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Brokenwrench

Well, I see noone has offered you any help. I waited because I know very little about number series Allis tractors. But I am happy to share what I have seen. The 200 tractors will bring about $4000 if in good condition with good tires. If they've got problems, I've seen them sell for as little as $1000.

I share the same urge you do but there is a difference. I grew up on a WC. The WC isn't much good for any PTO work but I still bought one and won't sell it. The decision to buy had nothing to do with need or usefulness. You buy to fill an inner need that can't be filled with anything else.

If you get it for less than $2000, you most likely won't loose money even after you've fixed it up.

Texas Danny, thanks for the response. I was starting to think I offended everyone on this board. As I said in my previous post, I don't know what this 200 is worth. I do have a sentimental attachment to this tractor, and I get along very well with the farmer that owns it. That's the problem, I, want to offer him a fair price, but knowing the tractor could need alot of work, I don't want to put my heart too far ahead of my head on this. I've bought a tractor before with "stuck rings", only to find pistons in pieces and the block shot. That's not easy on the wallet. Oh well, thanks again for the advise,I will probably be posting on here again if I bring this tractor home. God Bless Brokenwrench
