Im about to give up on starting my B. I just rebuilt it after buying it stuck. Im still convinced its a timing issue, but no matter what I try, it wont even come close to starting. Ive gotten spark to where its quite good, theres plenty of compression as I just did a engine rebuild with new rings and lapped valves, valves are adjusted perfect as I have checked twice with dome cover off. Everything there opens and closes as it should. I have sprayed everything from gas to starting fluid with nothing more than about 1 random "pop" for every 30sec of cranking. So Ive got comp, fire and fuel. Only thing left is timing in my mind. I will list what I have tried so far in hopes someone can point out something Im missing.Installed new autolite 295 plugs as well as j-8 champions have been tried "gaped to spec". All show strong blue/white spark when hand cranked or 12v on the starter. I have sand blasted the copper core wires connections, but as I get strong spark at the plugs I think that I can rule out a problem with plugs, wires, rotor, and cap. I have also tested every wire and all spark fine. I have set the points gap at .020 and made sure they are clean. Magneto "snaps" loudly when hand cranking. I have set the timing to exact specs pre dueys site. mag "snaps" right around TDC on front cyl comp stroke. When I take the cap off at this point rotor is right on at 10:00 to fire cyl 1. I know its the compression stroke as I put finger in plug hole to make sure. wires are on 1-2-4-3. I have tried switching the plug wires in every way possible to no avail. Have timed several gear teeth off on fiber gear in both directions. I also replaced the condenser because when it was installed it stopped any spark from happening. New one does the same. So I wrapped it with electrical tape to isolate it and it seems fine, but perhaps this is a clue? I have even poured a few ounces of gas in cylinders and cranked with a 12v battery and still nothing. I get nice suction throught the inake and good flow out the stack. Im new to tractors and magnetos, but and a pretty experienced engine mechanic and am completly stumped and living in CT I am also 4 hours drive from any shop that can work on something like this.
