I finaly put a rebuilt gen and a new regulator on my WD. It now shows a charge rate of 10 when the light switch is pulled out to the first position and the lights are on. It shows nothing when the switch is all the way in or all the way out. Does this mean it's working correctly, or is something still wrong? Thanks for the help.
P.S. The battery was all charged up before I did this.

the generator "F" terminal is gounded thru the light switch. direct ground with lights on. with lights off the charge drops by running the F wire thru the resistor on the light switch. if you get nothing with lights "off", the resistor may be bad. it is about 2-3 ohms.

Jim,
A system with a cut-out relay uses the light switch as a manual way to regulate the charge. If you have a regulator in the system, it is wired different and does not use the light switch to regulate the charge.

It is actually a cutout relay that I put on, not a regulator. Is it possible I could have a bad ground on the switch? The lights work.

Jim,
The "box" that the switch is mounted on, must be grounded to the batt box so the resister can operate properly (normally a short screw in the flange of the box.....lower left corner, provides the contact.)

Switch in,lights off, charging rate 3 amps. Switch out 1st position,lights on, charging 3 amps. Switch all the way out,lights off, charging 10 to 13 amps. From the manual.
