Just purchased a Allis Chalmer tractor - model 7080-2123. Looks like the thing is about 25-30 years of age, and is in pretty good shape. I plan to get an operators/parts manual at some point. Can anyone give me some info about this machine(ie. horse power rating, Do & Don't, how to take care, history, fun facts etc) ?

Replace rod and main bearings every 2000 hours, along with the rod bolts, and this is very important; replace the blancer on the front of the crankshaft. If you do these things it will be a good tractor.

The 7080 Allis is a fine tractor. It has features that were never offered on competetive tractors. The engine is somewhat suspect, but the rest of the tractor was o.k. The 7080 has a balanced engine as opposed to the 7060 which did not. Good luck!

You should put in new rod and main brgs. now and every 2000 hrs. And I would put new rod bolts also

Does yours have a maroon or black engine and frame? In AC circles these are refered to as black or maroon bellies. If it is black it was made between 77 and 81. Maroon would make it a 73 or 74 up to a 77. I'll check my serial number charts this afternoon to make sure. They have a 426ci turboed/aftercooled engine cranking out 180HP. At the time it was the most powerful 2wd tractor made. Don't know much about the 7080 itself, but we have a 7060 (next size smaller). Very solid tractor. Everything was overbuilt and it's near impossible to destroy the tranny. The engine tends to be the weak spot. They didn't do a good job of bolting the rod cap to the rod, so they have been known to ventilate the block. Just don't lug the engine much and if you get nervous, just pull the pan and re-do the rod caps. Not much else I can say. You might try the link below. There are more "modern" farmers there that run larger tractors. Just post a message and see what you get.
