I am supposed to find out where what kind of tractor this bolt came from. It was given to me as a test and I am allowed to use any resources except the person who told me to do this. It has some orange paint on it so I am wondering if it is from an allis-chamlers tractor...does anyone think they can help me? or atleast give me some clues as to how to find out?

Thank you for trying to help. The person who handed me the bolt knew where it was from and just wanted to see if I could figure it out. I only needed the make not the model. It was allis-chamlers.

Do you take up these "mindless" tasks very often just because someone tells you to? You may not find out what the bolt is but the nut is obvious!!:)

You need to obtain the owners manual for that bolt. Having a manual will give you the proper applications for that particular bolt. It is hard to say without looking at the bolt what it goes to and the paint might be misleading. Many of these older bolts have lost their serial numbers over the years, thus compounding the problem of identifying the bolts and their application. You should be able to abtain a manual from any good reputable bolt dealer.

If you've got use of a digital camera, put the bolt next to a tape measure and take a picture. See if you can get it posted here under "Help Identify". Who knows.
