Hi All
I have just purchased a "60"s vintage D14 Allis Chalmers tractor. This is the first farm tractor I"ve ever purchased and I would like to purchase an owner"s manual for it. My problem is I can"t even find the Serial/Model numbers on it. Where do I look??

Go to the left rear area of the engine. Where it bolts to the next casting- which is called the torque tube, the torque tube will have the tractor serial number. On the upper angled face of the torque tube, at about 10-11 oclock, you will find a number, -preceeded by D14. The number is STAMPED into the torque tube. Do not confuse it with a stamped number you find on the engine itself, again, left side, near the carb. That is the engine serial number.

Thanks for that, I'll go have a look.

I want to buy a manual for this tractor. I see on this site there are D14 manuals for 1957 to 1960. My question is are these years all the same and which manual should I purchase, the operators manual or the service manual? I'm mainly interested in maintenance like changing fluids and minor tune ups.

Operator manual gives you the basic info to identify controls,lube and operate the tractor. Basic maintenance. Might give you basic settings for points, plugs. ALWAYS the first one to buy. Service manual shows R&R remove and einstall major components. Tells you what to look for to determine if it is time to replace. Parts manual gives you exploded view of how all parts fit together, their numbers, etc. If you don't have a dealer nearby, and need to call for parts, that manual is a big time-saver, leads to fewer mistakes. Buy the operator manual, work up from there, and enjoy!
