I watched a tractor square dance this last weekend that they used (dare I say) four John Deeres and four Farmalls. Looked like a fun thing to try. They all used a spinner to whip the front wheels around sharp.
Well I gets to thinkin that maybe I could whip the Allis C around with a spinner knob but thought I would give it a try before I put one on the tractor. I took the old girl out in the field and much to my supprise I can whip the front off sharp with just crossed arms and do not even have to change hands. If I can talk Dixie to come out in the field and try some swangin. I think it would be neet to have an all Allis square dance group of narrow front C"s and CA"s. That is if there is not one already.

Sounds like a fun thing to do. If them young guys can fly them jets in the formations that they do surely you could find enough tractor guys to do a tractors. Got a new nick name for ya "Dances With Tractors"

Allis-Chalmers was doing this 65 years ago with the model B tractors at state fairs and other such shows to show how maneuverable the tractor was and to convince farmers they could get rid of the last team of horses. There is a picture on page 52 of Norm Swinford's "Allis-Chalmers Farm Equipment 1914-1985".

rblan (or whatever your name is), Driving a tractor on flat ground would take some real work to flip it. Maybe 3rd gear and really slam it around. Honestly, I'm getting tired of listening to people complain about how easy a narrow front will roll. Say does ANYONE have 1st hand experience of this? Maybe even read it 1st hand. Not heard from a freind that read it somewhere or thinks he heard it in the next town over. I've spent a lot of time on a very nimble little C. Even had a flat tire up front for a long time. Sure, going down-hill at an angle, and trying to turn back up, but that stupid, and a long ways from square-dancing with tractors.
OK, I have officially vented. Now, if Kim would just delete this post with my others, I'll quite down for a bit again.

Anyone that would think turning a tractor sharp while on the go never mowed hay with a rear mounted mower. I have mowed hundreds of acres hay with a simi mounted mower on both the Oliver 66 and 77. If you dont brake hard and use a spinner to turn sharp, you leave standing hay on the corner. Most hay was mowed in third gear on the Oliver that had six forward gears.

Boys and Girls dont square dance at a dead run the same as tractor square dances are not run in road gear. I would guess that the C would run in first gear. Wide open in parts and half throttle in other parts of the dance.
If you have seen it done, where they swing tire to tire, first gear half open will look quite fast to onlookers.

Nothing dangerous about drivin your tractor in circles with other tractors. That is unless you shouldn"t be drivin a tractor in the first place.
