I just picked a 1958 diesel D17 a few days ago and it needs the engine oil changed, bad. I don't have a manual in yet, so I was wondering if anyone that has the information could tell me what filter is recommended, what weight oil I should get, and how many quarts It'll take? I've read a few posts on here from people with other AC tractors using straight 30w oil. Is this appropriate for my diesel too?

30 wt might be a little stiff in the winter in some states. lot of guys use the new 15W 40 diesel oil these days. i would say it is the new standard for diesels. go to NAPA and ask about the filter, they should have a FRAM. i dont know the number for the diesel.
