Has anyone ever done a transmission swap from the power director to the power shift or vice-versa? Can it be done, or is the clutch/trans and rear end too different? Along the same lines, will either of these transmissions (say from a 7060 or 7080) fit in a 4WD 8550 or that series 4WD? I'm trying to get as much information as possible before sinking some money into a big project. Thanks.

I'm afraid I can't be too much help but I used to sell those bad boys and I'm pretty sure the rear half of the 8550 was a from the 7080 because it was a 4" axle but the front half was from a 7060 with a 3-3/4" axle unless you ordered the long axle option. Please remember the 7080 did not come with powershift. I don't know where you're located but I could put you on to someone who could tell you all about those machines and whether it would work or not.

Thanks, Don. I'm in MI and the tractor is in IA and I have found parts in both places.

Bryan, I've been gone all weekend so sorry for not getting back with you sooner. I'll start with the fact that some people I recommend may still be AC dealers and will be reluctant to give too much info due to liability issues due to this country being lawsuit crazy so anything they say is an extension of corporate directives so my guess it will be free and voluntary info. Since you're in Mich. I would recommend Dan Huff which used to be Dan's at Adrian Mi. if not Holmier and Son's in northeast Ohio (can't think of the town) at last but not least one I know personally is Larry Thomas who is not an AC dealer now but I can tell you knows the 8550 inside an out and now has a diesel rebuilding business in London, Ohio. I'm trying to get his phone number and should have it tomorrow. I know he's had an 8550 or two in his shop as an AC dealership gutted doing updates and probably knows the tractor inside and out. I hope to have his number tomorrow.PS I think the name of the town for Holmier's is Bryan, imagine that?
