Allis B, foot brakes, replaced rear housings (cracked) with ones from hand brake housings, replaced worn and oil soaked brake bands with new bolt adjuster type (as was in original foot brake tractor). Now cannot install return springs, they hit the end loop of the band (which holds the nut for the adjustment bolt). Comparison of the springs from both housings shows no difference in diameter. I can get the srping hooked on either end but it grabs on the band ehd when I try to stretch it. Any ideas?

i think on one B i also had to go into the rectangular hole (the 2 inch by 6 inch hole) with the die grinder and grind a little off the casting behind that one of the bolts screws into so the spring coud lay down a little more.

i think the small cast hole in the housing that the spring end goes into is smaller on the hand brake unit. take a die grinder and egg shape it, needs to be 1/4 inch longer hole.
