I'm looking for a larger tractor and ran across a very low-hour Allis 7040 for sale with a very attractive price.

I haven't actually looked at it yet, but the listing describes "1000 PTO makes noise".

I read in this forum about the low-rpm noise under the cab floor with these tractors and about the thrush bearings in the PTO.

Any thoughts from anyone on what I should look for and/or look out for?

Also, I'm comparing it to a massey ferguson 1155. Can anyone draw comparisons between the two? They are both less than 2600 hours and in good shape.

Don't know about the AC 7040 but we have an MF 1155 for sale. Rebuilt engine, cab and duals. MF is all in all a good tractor. It is hard to start the V-8 (we put intake heaters on). The totally independent PTO is great 540 or 1000. I'd say the worst part of the 1155 is the V-8 unless you need/want the power. It is loud and hard to keep from leaking.
