motor bolts right in. I put an E/3 in a WC. used WC flywheel/clutch. WC water pump(holes need drilled out for larger bolts) Used front cover off WD45, for govenor (two holes need drilled for larger bolts.) used front pulley from WC.
Good luck, Don

I'm fixin to do the same thing, I've been told that you use the tractor flywheel, use the front pulley ffrom the tractor but it has to be bored out to fit the crank on the new engine, and either make a adaptor plate for the water pump or a real thick gasket, the water pump for the gleaner has three mounting bolts, the tractor has only two. Hope this helps, don't know if it is all right, hope so it will make my swap much easier.

zach, just so you know Leroi made the engine for AC (the air compressor people) if you can find an old Leroi compressor and know what you're looking for that would work too but as the other gentleman said you will probably have to change some things. A lot of people thing that AC made their own engine but guess what? That is why the WD and 45 had such a snappy govenor. Good Luck.

Both the WD45 and Gleaner E engines were made by Allis-Chalmers. THey were not made by any other company.

Where was the AC tractor engine plant located in this era?

Yes- it does work. There are some differences. I think the combine engine has a fuel pump, which you don't need on the tractor. I think you remove the pump and make a cover for the hole in the engine casting. Imagine you'll need to remove the pulley and use the tractor pulley- don't know about the E, but many Gleaners run a two sheave pulley to run the fan and hudraulic pump. Might also need to use the original tractor governor as well. Bottom line is- the block is basically the same and will bolt into the tractor. Minor external differences. You're lucky to still find an E engine to put in there. Most are already snapped up.
