I just got my wd 45. The person i got it from thought it was getting water in the oil. He put in new head gasket. Still leaked. So today i pulled the head and the number 2 cylinder had a groove about an inch wide and maybe a 1/4 inch deep. The groove was from the wrist pin as far as i can figure. Is this what is causing the water in the oil or could it be somthing else?

NO, don't be "scared" of the WD-blocks..they are just fine..!! Those little cracks at the bottom web shouldn't really hurt anything, and I am sure many have ran for 40 years with them. They just get a little water in the oil... Get a Pint (or Quart) from any NAPA, or Autozone store.. It should be "Non-Hardening"--that is, it won't get hard..will "set up", but won't get brittle.. Mine says "Aviation Sealer", made by Permatex.. When ya get this Old Girl together, you will have to use it hard for 30 yrs (or More), before you need to open it up again...!! I have found that using Chrysler 318 V-8 Valve Spring Retainers will increase valve Seat pressure... Be sure to install the little circular clips, on the valve stems..they help prevent "dropped valves", should a valve spring break..

Probably is, or a crack between #1&2 at the bottom between the sleeves..not unusual..the webs are not very thick, there.. Replace the #2 sleeve, and with the waterjacket Clean and dry, pour in about a Pint of non-hardening Permatex, so it coats all of the bottom of the waterjacket, and around every sleeve... Pour it in thru a hose, so it doesent get all over the sides of the sleeves... Use the same sealant to lubricate the sleeve "O" rings, when you slip the sleeve in.. The sealer will set-up, and make a water-proof seal... Might be a good time to put in a 4 1/8" sleeve set... I used a "D-17" sleeve/piston set from "M&W"..it has 7.4 to 1 compression, and gives a real good power increase..altho you may eventually want to go to 12Volts, to get it to crank faster...!! I put in a "TSC kit" in Dad's, and they both pulled exactly the same..we could tell because we have some 1/2 mile long fields, and plowing, the trailing tractor ALWAYS catches up..!! 4x14" semi-mounted on each one...

I check down there for visible cracks and im gonna go with the 4 1/8 sleeves and pistions also. If there arent cracks i shouldnt put that in there should i?

I sure would...!! If a crack develops, it will not let water into the oilpan... The cracks are really hard to see sometimes... I always felt the webs tended to crack when the engine was really working hard, and ran out of gas....leaving the hot piston setting at the bottom of the bore, stressing the block from the heat... I always turn mine over every few seconds, if I run out of gas, to spread the heat over more of the cylinder until it has a chance to cool, some..

This has kinda got me scared of the allis blocks. I didnt know they were bad about that. We do i get the stuff to put down the block at?
