I only recently purchased a d-15 industrial loader/backhoe for a building project im doing. Must have cought a bug because I just decided I had to have another one. Funny, when I was a kid my father had a small Power King dealership. My mother rolled her eyes and declared "its genetic" when I told her I had purchased a tarctor. Any way, I bought an old b on e-bay item #3841697101 Let me know what yall think, or if you have any advice for a new B owner.

Joe, a fellow gave me his C. He hadn't used it for about 10 years. Yours sure looks a lot, lot better than mine. My engine is stuck as well. Had to use a hydraulic press to get out one piston. I've been honing now for three weeks. Can't get any of holes big enough even to take the piston without rings. Good luck - you'll need it.

I also thought about it, not that long a hike for me. But I'm just finishing the paint on my '38 and getting ready to start me '39. I agree with the guy below me. I'd invest in a head gasket, pull the head and take a look see. You could at least clean and lap the valves. Make it a much better runner just doing that and it's easy on these engines. I don't know if your in NY, but give a shout with any questions.

Thanks everyone, Im quite comfortable taking off head and lapping valves, or even honing cyl. if needed ect, but Not sure about shiming. Is this a pretty necessary step? Is there a way to tell if it needs be done? I sure I can follow a manual and do it, just want to get some real-world opnions on that part.

if you know valve lapping and honing then you are familiar with motor internals. most motors will have the cranks turned so that you have 2-3 thousands clearance on the journals to the bearings. if you go undersize ont he crank, you get undersize bearings, etc.---- the ALLIS motor was made for a farmer to repair. between the block and caps of the main journals (also the rods) there is 3 shims, .002 thickness on each bolt. the original clearance in teh bearings is .002---- as the bearings wear and you get too much clearance, you can remove the cap, remove a couple shims, and get back to the proper clearance. if you get more than 3-4 wear in the journals then you should grind the cranks and put new bearings and "shim as needed". your engine may have 2-3 thous wear on the crank and need a shim removed to get back to spec, ok??

i though about bidding myself, but its a long walk to NY from Illinois.--- tractor has been setting a long time. if you are not going to work on it right now, maybe after the 15, then i would pull the plugs and pour each cylinder full of PB blaster, etc and let it set. put a tarp over the hood and muffler if it dont set inside. IN the end i would plan on tearing down the motor and wire brushing everything. You can probalby reshim the crank, lap the valves, buy new rings and a gasket set. Hone the cylinders, and pull the liners to install new o-rings. Its been seting a long time and deserves at least and economical overhaul before you start it up. Nice looking straight tractor. I have a couple of them and always looking for another B.

Looks like you have a good start.

Pull the starter and make sure it is not stuck in the flywheel ring gear.

Pull the plugs and squirt PB Blaster in all the cylinders, you may want to pull the valve cover and squirt each valve stem at the guides. Let it set for a week, come back and do it again. After a month or so, try jacking the front end an letting the weight of the tractor sit on the crank. Don't drop it, or all you will have is a bent hand crank.

Check the bearings at the eccentric on the pitman drive shaft. If they are tight, (no slop) you did good on the mower. The tin looks real nice, but the backrest looks real "custom". $32.50 will get a real nice repro at Sandy Lake.

For $450 I think you did OK.... It is worth that just for the fun in in to get it going!
