Got a response from Vince in Ohio but need more help. My diesel has no tach. The tach hole was open when I got the tractor. I'd like to add one but don't know where to hook up the cable to the engine. Vince thought it was by the dip stick. No luck there. Help!

I looked at my D17 diesel last night. The tach shaft comes up out of the crankcase right between the fuel filter and oil filter canisters.

Vince, I spent about an hour on it today. I've got an inspection plate behind the fuel filters. When I removed it, I could look through the block and see the camshaft. There are no drive gears on my camshaft at this spot. And if this were the correct place, I need some parts I don't have and a different camshaft. Between the two fuel filters and the oil filter is the dipstick but nothing else. I wish I would have taken a picture so I could send it to you (didn't think of it). Is it possible to send me a picture of your block? Mine sure sounds different than yours. I've got a 1960 Series II. Maybe the tach changed in Series III. Email me at [email protected].
