I got a 39' Allis WC, she's got a good size bucket on her & we use it daily/ all year long. I'm doing my yearly fluids changing, getting her ready for winter & I want to buy a new stack pipe for it, I know it's threaded water pipe, but does anyone know the size, my memory tells me 2&1/2"?? Also, anyone know of a real quiet muffler I can put on that pipe? I use her early mornings/evenings & I'd like it quieter.

Josh,
Is your manifold the slanted one or is it the straight up manifold that allows the muffler pipe go through the hood? None of the origionals had threads in the manifolds so someone has threaded yours in the past. The standard muffler size for WC's and WD's is 1 3/4 in. Don't forget that pipe thread sizes don't relate to OD dimensions. If your manifold is threaded, you will have to find some pipe and thread it into the manifold. I would look at it real close, measure it, go to the hardware store and find some fittings that measure the same. Then I would buy a close nipple and take it home and try it. If it matches, then I would go back and have them cut off a piece of pipe the length you want. If the exhaust is slanted, you would need to have the pipe cut and welded to give you the angle to bring the pipe straight up. I have a friend who is restoring a '41 and he is not putting a muffler on the pipe because his grandfather never had one on it either. Makes his neighbors upset when he runs it. (He lives in a citified neighborhood.)

You say you have a bucket on your 39. What are you using for hydraulics? Just curious.
Dave

Thanks, my manifold was definately threaded, it took 2@1/2" threaded water pipe & I put a new muffler atop that (straight up), the muffler is a universal tractor unit & I got a new flapper for it (when it rots off, I"ll go back to my coffee can). My hydraulics are Massey-Ferguson, they run off my bottom PTO shaft (drawback is the clutch has to be "out" for them to work, push the clutch in & no hydraulics), but, they"ve been on there since early 1950"s & they work good for me. Thanks, Josh/Maine
