Allis Chalmers c 1940 Model?

My old C is either a 1939 or 1940. It has been stalling out after it gets warmed up. It may take 5 min. or it may take 30 min. Then it will die out. It may do this 4-5 times while I mow a 3 arce section of my 5 arce yard and sometimes it will not do it again. Any ideas? Mag cover cracked? Fuel problem?

Could be a fuel problem, the first thing that I would check is to make sure the gas cap is vented. Then I would make sure the flow of fuel is steady going into the carb.If it is good to this point I would clean the carb.Good luck.

Last year in the middle of the summer I added a new gas cap gasket over the old existing one becaused when I really fill the tank up it leaked out a little. I will remove it tonight when school is out and try it.

Had a similiar problem with a stack wagon, very erratic. Turned out to be a hornet in the tank floating around, it would float in the line inlet as long as gas was flowing and kill the engine. Then it had just enough bouyancy to dislodge itself and float free. Very frustrating. Good Luck

It sounds like a classic example of a failing coil. That is the reason I got my 'C' as cheaply as I did. The previous owner could not figure it out so he sold it. I changed the coil and did a tune-up and have been using it for three years now.
