I don�t have much experience with tractors of any kind, so I hope some of you Model B & C experts can help with the following: My 1945 Model B will not shut off with the ground switch, or even with a screwdriver across the post on the magneto to the magneto body. I have to kill the tractor with the choke. I took the ammeter off the B and tested it and it�s OK, but on the tractor it shows no charge or discharge, either starting or running. This tractor has a voltage regulator (not just a cutout) on the generator, and no lights. The Zenith carburetor on this B has a needle valve for the main jet where the service and operating manuals show a plug. Is this right? Unfortunately this carburetor has been soaked in carburetor cleaner and the numbers are gone from the aluminum disk, so I don�t know exactly which carburetor it is.

As far as your carb goes, I have one with the adjustable jet and one with the fixed jet. If you need the numbers off the disk, I'll take a look. I just rebuilt both. You can get the kits at NAPA.

You bet, I'd like to get the numbers from the adjustable jet Zenith. It might be instructive also to see if the two tractors are contemporary. Mine is serial #71019. Is yours close to that?

Model 8561, type 206989. This was off my '38 B. It's made for a 116 ci engine. It might not be the original. My '39 has the fixed jet. The NAPA Echlin part # is 2-1565 for the rebuild kit. It's the same kit for both carbs.

The internal wire of the magneto that goes to the screw where you are trying to shut it off may be broken off. The other problems are not related.

If it is a magneto ignition, check for paint or rust on both sides of the ground switch. It should shut off with good connections.

the terminal on the mag is grounded inside. if the wire is broke you can not "kill". what you are doing is grounding the mag with that terminal.
---normal 6 volt is a cutout. you could have a 6 volt regulator if it was converted. the regulator takes the place of the cutout and the light switch resistor (both). if you have a 12 volt battery, it need a regulator not a coutout.
