I have a 1939 Allis Chalmers WC. The tractor has a bucket (with downpressure) & we use it everyday & all winter. Tonight, I finally bought a new battery for it & some new cables. When I went to put the battery in, I noticed, I had the old battery hooked up w/ the NEG side of the battery to ground...I'm getting old, but, if I remeber right, shouldn't this be a positive ground system? I put a 12V battery in her for better starting in cold weather...I just put it on a charger once a week or so. How should I put the new battery in, does it make any difference?

the original tractor was 6 volt positive ground. you can change to 12 volt positive or negative ground. makes no difference. if you have an alternator you need negative ground like your truck. if it has a distributor, you might want to watch the polarity on the coil, and if it is 6 or 12 volt.---- if you have a magnito, and no charging system, makes no difference. i would connect negative ground to be common with auto and trucks.
