Hi, I have newly bought a Allis Chalmers B model � I think. But if I look at the serial number it says �EB 10638�. Can anyone tell me is it a B model and what stand �E� in the serial number for. Pictures can be seen on Link

if i had to guess i'd say its a mix of a a C B and G. it looks like a b, but the lift is all wrong. also it has C brake petals, the b's had hand lever breaks. the seat does look like a g. if i had to guess i'd say the stock b splines striped out (comon B problem) and the owner at the time replace them with c hubs, and drllied out the stock b wheels to say a few dollars. i hope this helps some.

i think the E stand for England. they had a version of the B they built and sent to canada and england. about 90% a B, with modifications. does it have LUCAS starter or generator on it? that might help prove something? exhaust manifold has the "spec plate" type casting so it was built in 39 or 1940 maybe??

You are properly right � the generator and the starter is from Lucas, so that with England could be right. I know that the AC D270 and D272 delivered to Denmark (Scandinavian countries) come from England, but I thought that the B model only was made I USA. I have the big book �The Allis Chalmers Story� by CH Wendel and I can�t find out what time they have started to assembled tractors in England� do You know?

no i dont know for sure. i believe ALLIS probalby had an agreement with a company in england to "assemble" tractors. maybe we shipped the motor, trans, and finals over there and they did the rest. I know ALLIS made "kits" and sent to Korea in the 1970 era. They let them do the finish work. I know the 270 was "after" the B or late B maybe era 1960? Im thinking they supplied b "kits" in 1939 till the WW2 time frame. After the war the Britts probalby developed their own tractor based on the B. I have heard part of this story, and made up the rest to fill in the blanks.

I probably should start, but could this stand for either an experimental or export version? The rear wheels look like that on a late B and so does the adjustable front end.

I too have EB questions...the serial number in question is EB5859. Its a tractor that my dad has had since it was employed to work at the AC proving grounds in Cedar Rapids.

THe proving grounds was basically a skunk works for scraper development in the late 50"s to 60"s.

This particular vehicle had some test and tune parts...one of which a 3 point hitch has been displaced (would like to locate one) and has lucas components exception is the mag its morse fairbank but have working lucas unit.

Would like to find source for new dist cap to be functionable...the under belly sickle mower is in place and the tractor is still being used to mow grass areas on acreage...Stout fun little tractor...

any help on pinning down the year on the s/n would be appreciated...

Ya got me hangin! That E must stand for an educational project cause findin the skinny on would be an education for me. Startin with the rear hubs- They are B hubs but the splines have been machined out and bolt holes drilled to mount them on what ever hub that was used.
Going to the last picture as to the top of the transmission where the seat attaches. This looks like a G seat spring bolted to a raised area to bolt it to. Probly a G transmission case. Then a spring was added to the back of the seat. Then on to the back of the seat with the lift assembly as well as the switch box. Like I said Ya got me hangin. Ya spose it was the last B ever factory made and they needed to use up what parts were left over. {:^D
