Considering buying a 1985 8070.

Local dealer has a 1983 2wd and a 1985 MFD model 8070 for sale. Both have about 5000 hours. I would be using the tractor for pto work and pulling a white planter operated with a hydraulic motor powered by the tractor's hydraulic outlets.

What are strong and weak points about these two tractors? Both tractors have powershift. Were there many updates between the 1983 model and the 1985 model?

How is parts availability for these tractors? I have never owned any Allis Chalmers equipment so I am unfamilar with these tractors.

I used to sell those tractors, I don't know what you want to know for sure but I can tell you that they were probably the best AC that was produced, I've seen an 8070 2wheel drive pulling a 24row JD planter with saddle tanks with no problems and if you know the JD planter it is a front fold 3pt hitch contraption that has tremendous tongue weight so much in fact that I've seen a Versatile 4WD pulling one with liquid tanks going down the highway and the front end was bouncing. Powershift is the best way to go if AC had a problem it was the torque limiter in the older series ie;7080 an etc.The powershift eliminates this issue the engine is a 426ci turbocharged intercooled diesel which has been a proven engine both in the field and pullng circuit for over 40 years. The 8000 series introduced a Bosch fuel pump which gave better fuel economy and less smoke the old series was Roosa Master which was a very radical pump on the power end but never let up when the rpms feel off which caused some mechanical failures. The hydraulics were open center on demand which cut back on power robbing and oil heating very reliable. God, I sound like a commercial. Parts should not be a problem, I think Fiat owns them now but not sure in this day and age who knows who owns who? Hope this helps, good luck.
