I had some work on a new point for the plow on my 42 allis b. I had the plow on and working. I had problems with the plow in the spring and have worked out the problem. I had it plowing yesterday and it works really works great. I have the tractor in second gear and 3/4 throttle and it works good. As I continue to work the tractor the power goes away as the tractor gets warmer. It want's to sputter and I have to bring the plow up out of the ground. When I bought the tractor the past owner had overhalled the tractor. I have had it for two years with little problems. Would there be any adjustment after a rebuild that would need to be done after two years. I run this tractor most every week from April till Nov for abought 8 to 10 hours doing hobby farm work and haven't had this problem as of yet. Could anybody help, I could use the info. Thanks

Sounds like the condensor or coil is breaking down. I would do a tune up. Plugs, points, condensor and swap coils with a known good one. Check the ignition timing and tappet clearence.

Good advice, Gene. I was thinking the same thing myself. Sounds like a coil breaking down. I, too, would do a tune-up (plugs, wires, points, condenser), then see how it does. I always try the easy stuff first, then move to the harder stuff. More than likely, it will be a simple fix - just a matter of finding it. Good luck, and keep us posted!

Would spark plugs have anything to do with my problem? I had one foul out in the spring doing the same thing. It was very apparent that one was bad, she almost had to be towed back home from the field that day. I use only the ac spark plug in both b's I have. Would one go bad or break down when hot and work fine when under less power requirements?

I have a WD that fouls the #1 plug. I can tell when the plug starts to foul. It, the engine, just doesn't run right, hot or cold. The more load I put on the tractor the more it misses. So, the answer is - Perhaps - although I don't think the plug would break down only when the engine is warmed up.

Replace the plug (all four) and see what happens. If it's not the plug(s), then finish the tune up. I'm still inclined to believe it's the coil or condensor.

Let us know what you find out.

The ballast resister will reduce the 12 volts to approximately 6 volts. So the voltage at the distributor should be some where around 6 volts - with the points open.

When the plug in my WD starts to miss, I just change the plug. Depending on use I only have to change the plug once or twice a year.
