My steering box on my 39'B is leaking like a sieve... Does someone make a kit for this or do I just order the needed seals one at a time from Sandy Lake? I would like to have the bits ahead of time... Should I figure that all the seals are shot in it and just buy them all anyway?

Thanks
Chris

A paper gasket behind the started that you can cut your self and a lip seal on the out putshaft that you would have to buy. You will probly need one of those thin sleeves that goes over the shaft and under the seal lip. Shouldn"t be mucn of a problem at the top where the steariing wheel shaft enters. Saying that, out of the dozen or so old B"s that I have had, some one had placed a grease zerk in the box and done away with the oil in several of them. Leak gone except what grease squirts out around the old worn out lip seal when over packing it.

I have bought new lip seals from Sandy Lake

Some of the experienced folks over in the John Deere discussion group suggest using John Deere Corn Head grease in the steering boxes. This stuff won't leak out and doesn't get too stiff in cold weather. One gentleman said that he had mounted a grease fitting in the drain plug of the steering box, removed the filler plug and pumped grease into the box until it came out the filler plug. Another option to worn seals.
